signal level monitoring, and Variable optical attenuators.
O-O switches are commonly used when the transport streams exceed
10Gig. At those rates/bandwidths, any introduction of
components which perform any sort of optical-electrical-optical
transition become point of error, or inadvertently introduce the
very types of impairments under observation. A true
Optical-Optical is both rate independent, and wavelength
independent.
